How To Prepare Your Lawn for Sir Grange Zoysia
What is the first thing you notice when you visit someone’s house?
Probably the roof, house painting and the lawn. People see the same things when they visit your home too.
If you want to leave a good first impression on people who visit your home, you must keep the roof, the colour of your house and the lawn well maintained.
One of the easiest ways to get a beautiful lawn is to install Sir Grange Zoysia Grass. It is one of the top-selling zoysia grass varieties developed by expert turf grass breeders and R&D teams.
Why Choose Sir Grange Zoysia Grass?
There are over 10,000 different grass varieties and each grass has its unique characteristics.
Among so many grasses, Sir Grange Zoysia is one of the best turfgrass varieties that is taking the market by storm because of its low-maintenance and high-quality appearance.
The best part is that this grass comes with a 10-year warranty from Lawn Solutions Australia.
Here are our top 7 reasons to choose a premium Sir Grange lawn:
- Low allergenic – Your kids and pet can safely walk, roll over and have fun without having to worry about allergies.
- High shade tolerance – Unlike other Zoysias, Sir Grange turf doesn’t need 100% sunlight to grow, it can grow beautifully even with 40% sunlight (four hours of direct sunlight). This grass can also survive full sun exposure, making it perfect for Australian properties with plenty of shade or no shade.
- Frost resistant – Frostbite happens when frost ice crystals break down the membranes of the root cells, this leads to dehydration and general cell damage. Unlike other warm-season grasses, Sir Grange Zoysia grass grows densely to prevent frost crystals from reaching the root system.
- Drought tolerant – For drought-prone areas, this is the grass you want to choose. Compared to other turf varieties, Sir Grange turf has deeper roots which ensure better water uptake.
- Wear tolerant – This grass type is also self-repairing and, like a good wine, this grass looks better the older it gets.
- Weed and pest control – Sir Grange inhibits the growth of weeds and other plants through a biological process known as Allelopathy. However, seasonal weed control may be necessary at times.
- Unique and beautiful – Besides its unique texture, Sir Grange Zoysia also features fine-leaf blades. Because of their vibrant colour and thin leaf blades, Sir Grange lawns are often mistaken for synthetic lawns.
Ground Preparation For Sir Grange Zoysia Lawn
If you’re looking for warm-season grass in Australia, Sir Grange zoysia turf is your best option. To get the best out of this luxury lawn grass, you first need to prepare the ground.
Soil preparation for Sir Grange lawns is pretty easy. You don’t need to follow strict guidelines. All you need to do is remove old turfs, add some fresh river sand and fertilise the soil.
Follow the 3 easy steps given below:
1. Plan The Lawn Area
Whether you’re planning a new Sir Grange lawn or planning to renovate your existing zoysia grass, the first step is to measure your lawn area.
This will help you determine how much grass, topsoil and fertiliser you’ll need to get the job done.
2. Prepare The Ground
To prepare the area, you’ll need to get rid of existing turf, unwanted grasses, stones and other debris.
If there are weeds that need controlling, you’ll need to ensure that your herbicide application is at least 7 days before you can fill the lawn with fresh soil.
Installing grasses immediately after the application of herbicide can kill the turf too. You should also consider trimming nearby trees so they are not overhanging.
3. Fertilise The Soil
Initially, you’ll need to give the soil some starter fertiliser to make sure the new lawn grows happily and with ease. For best results, always water deeply after you have fertilised to ensure it is properly absorbed into the soil.
Once your lawn is well established you don’t need to spend your busy days fertilising or watering. An established Sir Grange lawn requires 50% less mowing and 75% less fertiliser than other turf varieties.
What To Do After Ground Preparation?
Though Sir Grange Zoysia is easy to maintain, it still needs a little bit of caring to be lively and vibrant all year long.
Handling The Turf
Installing Sir Grange Zoysia is pretty simple! Once you prepare the ground, all you need to do is lay the turf on top of the sandy soil. But there are a few things to keep in mind, such as handling the turf and installation time.
Turf rolls are flexible and heavy by nature, make sure you get a helping hand if you can’t carry them by yourself to ensure the pieces don’t break.
It is recommended that you install Sir Grange Zoysia immediately after delivery/pick up, as it has a tendency to dry out easily, as well as the risk of causing burns on the leaves inside the rolls if it heats up.
If you use herbicide, delay the delivery or pickup unless you feel the ground is ready for the turf. Start laying each turf roll without leaving any gap or overlapping.
Avoid using small pieces unless necessary as it can leave the lawn uneven. Once the installation is complete avoid walking on it for at least 3 weeks.
Watering
Watering is crucial in the first 3 to 4 weeks. You’ll need to soak the lawn thoroughly every day for at least 45 minutes to get the roots growing faster.
Your main aim should be to get a deep root system established as soon as possible.
Once Sir Grange Zoysia is established, you should water only when the grass appears to be dry. The best time to water is early in the morning.
Mowing
Sir Grange Zoysia is a slow-growing grass and thus needs less mowing than other turf varieties.
Depending on your need you can mow once every two weeks or once a month. For a clean, pristine-looking lawn, the best height is between 18mm and 40mm.
Keeping your lawn closer to 18mm will give you the look of a golf field.
