Lawn Care
Maintenance
Every lawn variety thrives under slightly different conditions and maintenance practices. When initially choosing a turf variety, you should consider what lawn type will best suit your climate, how much foot traffic there will be and how much work you’re willing to put in each week. It’s important to know your individual lawn’s needs in order to know when best to mow, fertilise and water.
Each lawn variety is unique, needing slightly different care. But, getting it right has huge benefits (beyond your lawn looking fantastic). A well-maintained lawn will able to outcompete weeds better, which means less work for you. It will also have better general health which will improve its resistance to lawn disease and pests, its drought and heat tolerance, and its ability to hold its colour during winter.
As a general guide:
- DNA Certified Sir Walter Buffalo Grass will need mowing each week to a height of 20-25mm and fertilising at the beginning of each season.
- Sir Grange will need mowing about once a fortnight to your desired height and fertilising only as you feel it could use a boost.
- Eureka Kikuyu should be mowed to 20-25mm more than once a week and fertilised at the beginning of each season.
- Nullabor Couch needs mowing twice a week to a height of 15mm and fertilising each season.
- Platinum Zoysia should be mowed about once a fortnight to 25-40mm and fertilised as needed.
As conditions change throughout the seasons, so should your maintenance practices. In winter, your lawn will need less mowing and extra height whereas, in summer, you’ll need to mow more often.
